WRITER AND DIRECTOR
Isabella, a young autistic girl, has grown up being told how gifted she is at dancing, but the pressure and intensity of her new ballet school has caused her to crumble. Compose the Senses is a slice of life short film made by an almost entirely neurodivergent team, commenting on the way rigid traditions and the education system are able to doom autistic people to failure.
Writer and Director Talitha Bella - Autism affects every aspect of my life. The way I move, the way I think, and so much more. And because of this, traditional performance spaces (filmsets, theatre productions) have been so conflicting for me, because more often than not, they simply aren't set up in a way that allows me to be successful - despite how intensely passionate I am. Compose The Senses marks my decision to step away from my previous vocational aim of being a costume and set designer, and to instead create my own performances, to give myself a sense of control and authorship - and henceforth allow myself and other neurodivergent individuals to succeed.
